Abstract：The contents and effect of angiotensin Ⅱ(Ang Ⅱ) were investigated in human placentalvillous tissue during the first trimester of gestation.Ang Ⅱ were detected by RIA in placental tro-phoblast of 5-12 weeks of gestation,and its contents gradually increased with weeks of gestation. AngⅡ was released in vitro into the medium from explants of villous tissue at 6-9 weeks of gestation,andAng Ⅱ concentrations in the media were elevated in parallel with the weeks of gestation. The levels ofAng Ⅱ were much lower in maternal plasma than in placental villi,and no significant change was foundin Ang II concentration at the same time.Furthermore,exogenous Ang II stimulated hCG release in adose dependent fashion.(Sar1lle8)Angll (Ang II antagonist)at 10-6 mol/L.inhibited hCG secretion.Therefore,we reasoned that human placental villi is one of the source for Ang II generation during earlypregnancy.The presence of component of the renin-angiotensin system(RAS)points to the possibleexistence of local RAS in human placental villi at the first trimester.
